Whether you got married, prefer a nickname, or made a typo when you first signed up, changing your name on Facebook only takes a few steps.
How to change your name
- Log in to Facebook and click your profile picture, or open Settings and Privacy.
- Go to Settings, then “Personal details” under Accounts Center, or search for “name” in the settings search bar.
- Select “Name” and enter your first name, middle name (optional) and last name.
- Click “Review Change”, confirm your password, and save.
Facebook’s name rules
Facebook requires that the name on your profile be the name you go by in everyday life, and does not allow symbols, numbers, unusual capitalization, or professional titles as part of your name field. If a change is rejected, it is usually because it does not follow these guidelines, not because of a technical issue.
How often can you change your name
Facebook limits how frequently you can change your name to prevent abuse. If you have changed your name recently, you may need to wait before changing it again. If you need an urgent correction, such as a misspelling, Facebook’s Help Center has a separate request form for that.
Changing a Page name
Renaming a Facebook Page (rather than a personal profile) is done from the Page’s own settings, under “Page info”, and may require Facebook’s review if the Page has a large following.
